Laser Cutting Machines - Laser Cut Profiles & Services From PP Plasma Ltd Manchester.

Laser cutting steel process. Machines working on profiling stainless steel.

High Precision Laser cutting machine on a 6500 x 2500 x 6 kilowatt bed available to produce the profile you need upto 25mm thick.

Laser cutting can be used with few limitations on most materials including Stainless Steel, Aluminium, Duplex and Super Duplex.

Laser cutting is cutting with light beams of uniform wavelength. The process is not dependent on the ignition temperature of the material as in autogenously cutting, or on the electricity conducting properties as in plasma cutting.

The laser was proposed as a variation of the laser principle in the late 1950s and the first laser was demonstrated in 1960.

Since that time, the laser services applications in fields including science, Defence, Pharmacuetical, Offshore, consumer electronics and many others.

Part precision

Mechanical precision of machine according to order confirmation

  • Machine tolerance according to VDI 3441 (position precision) +/- 0.1mm/m
  • Repetition precision +/- 0.05mm

Attainable part precision during laser cutting

The different tables are based on the DIN standard 2310 "Thermal Cutting" and supplemented for the laser systems of Bystronic Laser AG. The tolerances shown are reasonable experimental values.

See table below for cutting tolerances:

Thickness t (mm) Part length L (mm)
0<L<10 10<L<100 100<L<300 300<L<1000 1000<L<2000 2000<L<3000
0.5 < t < 3 [+/-] 0.1 [+/-] 0.1 [+/-] 0.2 [+/-] 0.25 [+/-] 0.3 [+/-] 0.4
3 < t < 6 [+/-] 0.2 [+/-] 0.2 [+/-] 0.2 [+/-] 0.25 [+/-] 0.4 [+/-] 0.5
6 < t < 10 [+/-] 0.2 [+/-] 0.2 [+/-] 0.2 [+/-] 0.3 [+/-] 0.4 [+/-] 0.5
10 < t < 15 [+/-] 0.25 [+/-] 0.25 [+/-] 0.3 [+/-] 0.3 [+/-] 0.4 [+/-] 0.6
15 < t < 20 [+/-] 0.3 [+/-] 0.3 [+/-] 0.3 [+/-] 0.3 [+/-] 0.5 [+/-] 0.6

The following conditions have to be met to obtain the tolerances above in [mm] for all parts:

  1. Optimised cutting results, especially tool compensation (normally standard Bystronic parameters).
  2. The sheets must not heat up more than 20°C during laser cutting.
  3. When parts are measured, the surface plane of the parts must be identical to the surface plane of the cutting area.
  4. Internal stress in the sheets is not taken into consideration in the tables. Warps have a negative effect on the results.
  5. The roughness on the surface must not influence the measurement.
  6. Measurements should not be performed at the first cut of the contour
  7. Relevant measurements must only be performed on parts with bare edges
  8. Good system conditions including all lenses.
  9. Measurement and analysis procedure according to VDI/DGQ 3441.
